Art Matters Festival: Clairvoyant Creatures

Concordia University's Art Matters Festival is proud to present: Clairvoyant Creatures, a one-night performance event at Centaur Theatre

Through video, performance, and sculpture, the real and imagined bodies of human, non-human, and more-than-human beings co-materialize, holding together, open, and falling apart.

The chorus is sedimented, lyrical, utopic, full of loss; a joyful attaching to all the matter in the whole world as it comes into your perception. Clairvoyance as mediumship: hold yourself open to the voices of matter speaking through and to you as collaborators, ancestors, and friends. It involves mind-reading through micro-mirroring gestures and the tendency to repeat a habit of expression after a long conversation with a beloved other or object.

Clairvoyance as the material agency of non-living things encompasses entelechy, telekinesis, élan vital, and still forms without stillness in the continuous movement of atoms. It is like a knock on the wall if you’re there in the séance. Clairvoyance as time travel: the entire geologic timescale of the earth is available to you all at once, making you an ancestor and a descendant of yourself. Everything can speak through you and to you now, right now, now. It represents a past and a future where your mothers know your name.

À travers la vidéo, la performance et la sculpture se comatérialisent les corps réels et imaginés d’êtres humains, non humains et plus qu’humain, se tenant ensemble, ouverts, et s’écroulant. Le chœur est sédimenté, lyrique, utopique, plein de pertes; un attachement joyeux à toute la matière du monde entier alors qu’elle tombe dans le champ de notre perception.

La clairvoyance comme médiumnité : s’ouvrir à toutes les voix de la matière s’adressant à travers et à nous en tant que collaborateurs, ancêtres, et amis. Comme télépathie : micromiroir des gestes, la tendance à répéter une habitude d’expression à la suite d’une longue
conversation avec un être cher/objet. 

La clairvoyance comme le pouvoir d’action matériel des choses sans vie : entéléchie, télékinésie, élan vital, formes sans immobilité au sein du mouvement continuel des atomes. Un coup à la porte si l’on assiste à la séance. La clairvoyance comme voyage temporel : l’ensemble du calendrier géologique de la Terre vous est rendu accessible d’un coup, un de vos ancêtre et descendant. Tout peut vous parler, et à travers, tout de suite, maintenant. Un passé et un futur où votre mère connaît votre nom.
