Carine Biley and Ngalula Mafwata are pleased to present Sacred Languages: The Metamorphoses, the solo exhibition of Cameroonian photographer and visual artist Martin ABEGA at Filafriques in Geneva.
Presented as part of a collaboration between Filafriques and MAYÌ ARTS, and curated by Ngalula Mafwata, the exhibition brings together a fascinating selection of photographic compositions and works blending photography, textile, embroidery, cowrie shells and charcoal.
Sacred Languages: The Metamorphoses explores processes of transformation unfolding through both body and mind: ordeal, fragility, trace, transmission and regeneration, metaphorically embodied through the female figure.
FROM IMAGE TO MATTER
Martin ABEGA’s world brings together body, memory and beauty.
For ABEGA, photography is never an end in itself. It is a doorway, a sacred portal into other interconnected realms of thought.
From photography to textile, from embroidery to charcoal, the image extends, fragments, absorbs and takes form anew. Inner metamorphoses become visual metamorphoses.
Sacred Languages: The Metamorphoses does not seek to impose a definitive interpretation of the sacred. Instead, it opens a space for contemplation and inquiry.

Présentée dans le cadre d’une collaboration entre Filafriques et MAYÌ ARTS, sous le commissariat de Ngalula Mafwata, l’exposition réunit une sélection de compositions photographiques et d’œuvres mêlant photographie, textile, broderie, cauris et charbon.
Langages Sacrés : Les Métamorphoses explore les processus de transformation qui traversent à la fois le corps et l’esprit : l’épreuve, la fragilité, la trace, la transmission et la régénération, métaphoriquement incarnées à travers la figure féminine.
DE L’IMAGE À LA MATIÈRE
L’univers de Martin ABEGA réunit le corps, la mémoire et la beauté.
Pour ABEGA, la photographie n’est jamais une finalité. Elle est une porte, un portail sacré vers d’autres territoires de pensée interconnectés.
De la photographie au textile, de la broderie au charbon, l’image se prolonge, se fragmente, s’absorbe et prend forme autrement. Aux métamorphoses intérieures répondent alors des métamorphoses visuelles.
Langages Sacrés : Les Métamorphoses ne cherche pas à imposer une interprétation définitive du sacré. L’exposition ouvre plutôt un espace de contemplation et de questionnement.
