South of the Marais district

This is may be not the most famous part of the Marais district nevertheless, it provides some great treasures. The hôtel de Sens, which is one of the oldest residences in the area still reminds us of the transition between medieval and Renaissance architecture. Some gardens and hidden alleyways will take us along the Philippe Auguste wall and its fortified towers. Some streets such as rue du figuier, rue de la cerisaie, rue des lions will tell us about the previous royal gardens and zoo. We will also get to know more about some unusual stories such as the poison affair of Madame de Montespan and the very dark secret story of the Man with an Iron mask…
