Momoyo is the Ghent-based band featuring Jonas Bruyneel (guitar - Philemon, Vincent Coomans), Esther Coorevits (viola - Nemø Ensemble, Tourist LeMC), Frie Mechele (vocals - Vincent Coomans), Renaud Debruyne (drums - Mirek Coutigny, Mergel), and Sven Sabbe (bass - Galine). The quintet surprised audiences in 2020 with their debut EP, which received airplay on Radio 1 and Studio Brussel. In 2022, they released their debut album "Gaps in Time" on Starman Records, and toured Belgium, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. In early 2025, momoyo reworked several songs for the intimate EP "Mirror Session" (Wellington Records). momoyo received rave reviews both domestically and internationally and has been streamed nearly one and a half million times. In January 2026, their second album, "Home Is Just a State of Mind," was released on Wellington Records. It's a coming-of-age album that reflects on the turbulent period between their twenties and thirties. It's an album about losing people, making choices, and getting to know yourself. The album sees momoyo return to their core: a pure sound, live and close to themselves. The most unforgivingly personal and effortless music they've ever made. At the same time, as usual, "Home Is Just a State of Mind" is occasionally danceable. Driving grooves, summery guitars, drawling harmonies, and rousing vocals: if we're going to perish, let's dance. You may have heard their latest single, "To Fix a Heart with Words," on Radio 1 in recent weeks. Also important to the band is "My Sister Sleeped," a song Jonas wrote for his sister, who passed away thirty years ago.
