Out of Towners returns on Tuesday 16 September with Sheffield’s JÖRO landing in Manchester for one night only. Husband-and-wife team Luke French and Stacey Sherwood will commandeer the airy dining room of Ancoats Italian bistro Bruco, recreating the buzz of their 19th-century Oughtibridge Mill home.

Founded in December 2016, JÖRO (Old Norse for “earth”) quickly became Sheffield’s first Michelin Bib Gourmand, then collected three AA Rosettes and a coveted entry in the 2025 Michelin Guide. Six consecutive Top 100 Restaurant placings in the National Restaurant Awards followed, alongside rave reviews from The Guardian, The Times and The Daily Telegraph.

JÖRO’s philosophy is rooted in purity, locality and craft. With just 11 tables arranged around a glowing open kitchen - and no dress code to worry about - guests share in every flame-kissed turn of trout or poke of a charcoal-seared quail. Luke and Stacey champion native ingredients and elevate them with live-fire cooking, fermentation, pickling and other time-honoured techniques inspired by Scandinavia and Japan.

Bruco’s stylish, loft-like space will be transformed into JÖRO’s tasting-room theatre. Two sittings - 6pm and 8:30pm - allow Manchester diners to settle into service that will mirror JÖRO’s unpretentious ethos: first-name introductions, bright explanations of each course, and a relaxed atmosphere that keeps the focus squarely on flavour and togetherness.

Berkmann Wine Cellars have curated the wine flight with Masi — the family winery rooted in Valpolicella Classica since 1772 and a benchmark for Amarone. Known for appassimento (grapes dried on traditional bamboo racks to concentrate flavour), Masi bring a Veneto-led line-up tuned to the menu.
