Description

Paris Energy Week 2026, the Challenges of Electrification

Electrification is becoming a central pillar of the energy transition. By reducing reliance on oil and gas, it can enhance the resilience of import-dependent economies such as China and Europe to geopolitical and supply shocks, while contributing to the decarbonization of energy systems and the achievement of climate objectives. At the same time, large-scale electrification entails far-reaching transformations in power infrastructure, system flexibility, security of supply, and market design. However, electrification will not happen in one day, and requires heavy investments, new and more resilient infrastructures, new equipment, new technologies, and social policies. In addition, electrification will not be possible for every energy system, and will also need to be complemented by demand-side management and energy efficiency measures.

Across four days, the 2026 edition of the Paris Energy Week will bring together leading voices from academia, public institutions, industry, finance, and civil society to explore Europe’s electrification journey and its implications for energy, climate, competitiveness, and resilience. Organized by Climate Economics Chair-Dauphine PSL, the Emlyon Business School, the Energy for Society Institute - Grenoble Ecole de Management (GEM), the Jacques Delors Institute, Polytechnique and Sciences Po, the programme will examine the opportunities and challenges of scaling electrification. It will cover issues such as climate technologies finance and electricity infrastructure resilience, household adoption and Europe’s geopolitical position. It is hosted across the campuses of the Emlyon Business School, Dauphine PSL, and Sciences Po and will be in partnership with Engie.
