Charo Calvo est une compositrice électroacoustique, conceptrice sonore et enseignante espagnole vivant à Bruxelles. Après avoir été danseuse au sein de la célèbre compagnie belge Ultima Vez, elle a commencé ses études de composition électroacoustique en 1992 auprès d'Annette Vande Gorne au Conservatoire de Bruxelles (aujourd'hui ARTS2 Mons). Elle a obtenu son diplôme en 1999.
Depuis 1992, son travail de compositrice s'est développé à travers différents médias, largement diffusé dans des salles et festivals internationaux, des spectacles de danse, du théâtre, des films et à la radio. Elle a reçu plusieurs prix importants tels que le Palma Ars Acustica 2014 EBU, le Phonurgia Nova Awards Paris 2017, le Prix Marulic 2018 Croatie, le Grand Prix Nova Bucarest 2019 et a été présélectionnée pour le Prix Europa Berlin et le Hearsay Prize Irlande.
Charo Calvo a été invitée au prestigieux programme résidentiel pour artistes internationaux à Berlin DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm pendant l'année 2017/2018. Elle a été sélectionnée pour représenter la Belgique aux Journées mondiales de la musique contemporaine 2020 de l'ISCM à Auckland, en Nouvelle-Zélande, avec sa pièce multicanal « The Grass », commandée par le GRM-INA Maison de la Radio, Paris.
Charo Calvo is een Spaanse elektroakoestische componiste, geluidsontwerpster en docente, woonachtig in Brussel. Na als danseres te hebben opgetreden bij het invloedrijke Belgische dansgezelschap Ultima Vez, begon ze in 1992 haar studie elektroakoestische compositie bij Annette Vande Gorne aan het Conservatorium van Brussel (nu ARTS2 Mons). Ze studeerde af in 1999.
Sinds 1992 ontwikkelt ze haar werk als componiste via verschillende media, dat op grote schaal wordt verspreid op internationale podia en festivals, in dansvoorstellingen, theater, film en op de radio. Ze ontving verschillende belangrijke prijzen, zoals Palma Ars Acustica 2014 EBU, Phonurgia Nova Awards Paris 2017, Prix Marulic 2018 Kroatië, Grand Prix Nova Boekarest 2019 en stond op de shortlist voor Prix Europa Berlijn en Hearsay Prize Ierland.
Charo Calvo was in 2017/2018 te gast bij het prestigieuze residentieprogramma voor internationale kunstenaars in Berlijn, DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm. Ze is geselecteerd als vertegenwoordiger van België op ISCM 2020 World New Music Days in Auckland, Nieuw-Zeeland, met haar meerkanaalswerk ‘The Grass’, in opdracht van GRM-INA Maison de la Radio, Parijs.
Charo Calvo is a Spanish electroacoustic composer, sound designer and teacher, living in Brussels. Charo Calvo has been a guest of the prestigious residential program for international artists in Berlin DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm during the year 2017/2018. She has been selected as representative of Belgium at ISCM 2020 World New Music Days in Auckland, New Zealand with her multichannel piece ‘The Grass’, commissioned by GRM-INA Maison de la Radio, Paris.
