About

Shira was born and raised in a village between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Her father is an ex-IAF pilot and today an EL Al pilot, and Her mother is a psychoanalyst. "Since I remember myself, my dream was to become a pilot – just like my father". Thanks to Alice Miller and many other brave men and women, in 1995 this dream became possible.

In 2005 She joined flight academy together with 16 women and about 250 men. 3 years later, together with 49 men, she was the only woman to graduate. Shira served for 5 more years as a combat helicopter pilot and had the opportunity to participate in important missions together with her squadron colleagues. "It was during that time that I started developing my views on diversity and inclusion".

Shira left the IDF in 2014 and moved to Oxford, where she did her MSc in Environmental Change & Management and wrote her dissertation on wastewater treatment in the Gaza Strip. "It was an eye-opening year for me, in which I developed my perception around sustainability matters". When she finished her Masters, she moved back to Israel and did a Milken fellowship in the Israeli government focused on exporting Israeli water technologies. "Following that year, I decided to join McKinsey – to improve my business acumen and engage in solving some of the world’s greatest challenges".

After 18 months at McKinsey, a terrible disaster happened in an Israeli pre-military program (NGO), where 10 students lost their lives due to a flood in the river they were hiking in. "Following a feeling of mission and urgency, I left McKinsey to try and rehabilitate the NGO. 10 months later, after facing tremendous challenges, we realized the program will not be reopened and I decided to go back to the private sector".

For the past two years Shira have been working at Vintage Investment Partners – an Israeli based venture fund, investing in some of the world’s leading funds and companies. At Vintage she leads their investments in climate-tech and healthcare.

In her conversation, Shira will share her insights on diversity and inclusion, following her experiences in different places, organizations and points in time, from the Israeli Air Force, through Oxford and McKinsey and up to the VC world.
