Will and Wisdom: Perspectives on the ICJ Advisory Opinion

On the 23 July 2025 the International Court of Justice (ICJ) delivered their eagerly anticipated Advisory Opinion on the Obligations of States in Respect of Climate Change.
In response to this landmark opinion, Dauphine Recherches Juridiques at Dauphine Universitié Paris-PSL and the Journal of Environmental Law are hosting an international workshop to discuss the significance and implications of the decision. Contributors to the workshop, and a special issue of the Journal of the Environmental Law, will offer in-depth analysis of various aspects of the Advisory Opinion, from the question of reparations to the consequences for the fossil fuel industry. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to celebrate the Advisory Opinion through the creation of a live artwork.

Le 23 juillet 2025, la Cour internationale de justice (CIJ) a rendu son avis consultatif sur les Obligations des États en matière de changement climatique.
En réponse à cet avis historique, Dauphine Recherches Juridiques à l'Université Paris-PSL et le Journal of Environmental Law organisent un séminaire international afin de discuter de l'importance et des implications de cette décision. Les contributeurs au séminaire et à un numéro spécial du Journal of Environmental Law proposeront une analyse approfondie de divers aspects de l'avis consultatif, de la question des réparations aux conséquences pour l'industrie des combustibles fossiles. L'atelier sera également l'occasion de célébrer l'avis consultatif à travers la création d'une œuvre d'art en direct.
