Description

Writing Black Feminism is a retrospective of Black feminist movements across lands and time. Officially emerging in the nineteenth century in the United States, Black feminism was born out of the convergence of intersecting struggles: those of women engaged both against sexism and against institutionalized racism.

The movement subsequently spread to other regions of the world, notably to England in the 1970s. There, women denounced violations of their rights, systemic racism, and police violence. They also highlighted their exclusion from mainstream feminist movements, largely dominated by white women, as well as from antiracist movements often led by men.
