Online Group Classes Developing Personal Voice

with Lara Coley, author of ex traction poetry collection

Six 1.5 hour classes starting June 16th (plus a call with me after to look at your writing together)

Tuesdays at 8pm (CET/Paris time) or 11am (PST/California time)

What you'll learn:

How do you express who you are in words? How do you use your voice to get people to understand you, the real you, better? Everyone packs their words with their own meaning and we want to look at what *you* are packing, if you are carrying enough, too much, or not enough to get you where you’re going. We will look at curated pieces that have inspired me to reflect, to feel, to write, and we examine how they did it, what can we borrow as a tool... Then we'll ask, what do we want to say using that tool?

How it's organized:

• Warm up your voice: quick & easy writing prompt on the theme

• Dive into inspiration with short, curated contemporary work we read together

• Discuss what we get from it & take a look at the tricks & tools doing the work (making us  feeeeel something) in the piece

• Exploratory prompts to jump into your own voice, using those tools

• Time to share (no pressure but it is a joy to be with other people who just took the very vulnerable step of putting their voice on paper & sharing what you each got from the exercise)

• Connect the ideas to the world (where else we might see these tools being helpful, or the image the sharing brought up, or whatever we have time for that connects what we just took in or created)

With 15 years teaching creative writing and as a former editor-in-chief, I know how to help writers get to the meat of what they want their readers to feel. I have experience working with professional writers and brand new, first time writers. If you have never written, you will learn tools to start writing. If you have been writing for years, you will dig into where the 'you' in your writing voice has been hiding.
