BARRANI – The Double Absence | Corps Citoyen

BARRANI - La doppia assenza, nasce come una ricerca sonora che diventa scena, per poi sdoppiarsi parallelamente in spettacolo e produzione discografica, in un campo di echi, riverberi e parole. Una presenza fuori posto, “sempre nel posto sbagliato” nelle parole di Edward Said, che non trova spazio né all’origine né all’approdo. Questa condizione dell’essere a-topos, secondo Abdelmalek Sayad, è una delle caratteristiche ricorrenti dell’esperienza migratoria, che configura una percezione di sé nella “doppia assenza” tra il luogo d’origine e quello di arrivo. Barrani in tunisino è lo straniero, letteralmente “colui che viene da fuori (el barra)”, colui che ha intrapreso il viaggio verso l’Europa. Questa ricerca-performativa è dedicata a tutte e tutti noi, generazione della diaspora, cittadine e cittadini non nativi europei. Nostalgia, esilio, lingua madre sono alcuni dei colori di un viaggio in un tempo non lineare, dove la presenza è duplice e connessa, la memoria un rifugio e il corpo un archivio di rituali gestuali che ti fanno sentire a casa.

BARRANI – The Double Absence was born as a sound-based research that evolved into a performance, and then split into both a stage piece and a music production — a field of echoes, reverberations, and words. It explores the condition of being out of place, “always in the wrong place,” in Edward Said’s words — a presence that finds no home either at the origin or at its destination. This a-topos condition, as theorized by Abdelmalek Sayad, is one of the recurring traits of the migratory experience, shaping a sense of self suspended in a “double absence”, between the place of departure and the place of arrival.
In Tunisian Arabic, Barrani means “foreigner,” literally “the one who comes from outside” (el barra), the one who has embarked on the journey toward Europe. This performative research is dedicated to all of us,the generation of the diaspora, non-native European citizens. Nostalgia, exile, and mother tongue are some of the colors of this journey through a nonlinear time, where presence is doubled and intertwined, memory becomes a refuge, and the body an archive of gestural rituals that bring us home.
