Cooking Workshops in Preparation of the End of the World #beans is an interactive research performance exploring the world of beans and pulses and their role in the food systems of the future. Through storytelling, sensory exercises and collective tasting experiences, participants are invited into Sien Vanmaele's ongoing artistic research. Blending performance, ritual and food practice, this experience offers a playful and reflective encounter with beans as cultural, ecological and sensory agents. Participants will discover how these humble ingredients nourish both people and soil, while imagining alternative food futures together. Followed by a shared beany meal.

Practical notes

The experience is scheduled to last 60 minutes in total and includes a a specially curated cocktail/mocktail upon arrival, followed by a 30 minute interactive performance including three sensory tastings and complete with a shared light meal centred on legumes.

The performance will be delivered in English.

Unfortunately, this activity is not wheelchair accessible. The space can only be reached via a narrow staircase and there is no lift available.

Facilitator bio

Sien Vanmaele (1990) is a Belgian theatre maker, performer and food artist at Laika, theatre of the senses. Through participatory performances that combine taste, smell, touch and storytelling, she explores the relationship between food, ecology and human experience. Her recent work focuses on future food systems, translating complex environmental questions into intimate, sensory encounters.
