SYNOPSIS

Halla is a 50-year-old choir director living an ordinary life in Iceland. In secret, as a committed environmental activist, she sabotages the local aluminium industry. While planning her biggest action yet, she receives news that will change her life completely. As the authorities close in on her, she has to make an important decision.

OUR TAKE

Woman at War is witty, surprising, and suspenseful, while also grappling with difficult questions. The film explores themes that could make for a dark and depressing story, but its creators use a cornucopia of humorous devices. You will be surprised by the creators’ ability to introduce the most unexpected and absurd humour into tense moments, breaking the seriousness of the film. As a result, the film’s critique remains powerful without becoming overwhelming. The film raises questions about how we can organise ourselves to stand up for our beliefs, even when we are doing so alone.
